Œuvre collective

Danse chromatique dans la neige is a tribute to multidisciplinary artist Françoise Sullivan. Inspired by her checked patterns, students at Saint-Gabriel-Lalemant and Charles-Lemoyne elementary schools created small monochrome spaces that combine to create a luminous choreography. The colors dance in winter as the artist herself did. Join the dance!

The Charles-Lemoyne School is located in the Pointe-Saint-Charles district (the neighborhood where Françoise Sullivan established her workshop) and hosts together students from preschool to 6th year.

The Saint-Gabriel-Lalemant school is located in the Villeray district and also welcomes students from all levels of primary school.

Sculpture lumineuse

Influx is a sculpture created from the data visualization of the BIXI network. From busier neighborhoods such as Ville-Marie to more residential areas such as Ahuntsic and Parc-Extension, it is the number of bike trips over the course of a year that generated the unique shape of the installation. The highest junctions of the sculpture correspond to Montreal neighborhoods where BIXI stations are the most sought after, while the lowest points represent areas where BIXI bicycles are the least used. Each bright pixel represents the path of a user in that network. The animation of the sculpture allows you to visualize in an accelerated way the movements of Montrealers. Influx is a work of art that reflects the pulse of the city through its arteries that citizens make vibrate by their movements.

6 - CYCLE

Installation interactive

The CYCLE artwork was inspired by astronomy principles, such as the Saros cycle that predicts the movement and eclipses of the Moon and Sun. The circle-shaped structure diffuses two rings of light, inwards and outwards, which recalls the diffuse circular light during these eclipses, whether partial or total.

Visitors can sit down or walk on the structure to activate different scenarios of light animation. An ambient cyclic music is evolving according to the level of interactivity with the artwork. An infinite variety of combinations offers users the opportunity to explore the visual and sound environment of the artwork.

Serge Maheu

Montréal

Serge Maheu is an artist/designer/programmer who lives in Montreal, Quebec. A Computer Engineering Graduate, he eventually made his way to the art world and then became a multimedia director.

He likes to explore different disciplines in his work: video, animation, photography, music creation, sound design, programming, mathematics, interactivity, electronics and design. He’s a lover of moving light, straight and oblique lines, simple geometric shapes, concrete and pixel art, minimalism, and music that’s both repetitive and eclectic.

He's interested in creating innovative works filled with poetry, while exploring the relationship between humanity and the digital world. He is always open to new ideas, collaborations, and exploring new artistic or technological possibilities.

7 - URBAN POETRY

Mapping vidéo 3D

This project plays with the notion that, increasingly, Nature is being replaced and dominated by the concrete world made by Man. Our character takes us into a dense scenario where his skills as a traceurs/dancer allow him to use the architectural features to his own advantage.

In a poetic approach we see the combining of these two universes, one natural and other urban, mixing hard and strong elements with the intensity and delicacy of Nature.

By appropriating its city, the character shows everybody a way of living its present condition, being resilient, overpassing problems and pushing one’s imagination further.

OCUBO

Portugal

Ocubo is an international reference in video mapping and interactive projections with projects all over the world. From concept to content creation, from site analysis to equipment renting, setup and exhibition, Ocubo creates and delivers all-in-one projects. Their artistic installations and shows contributed to some of the largest international Light Festivals, UNESCO World Heritage site, monuments and other public places, including major cities like London, Sydney, Lisbon, Singapore, New Orleans, Amsterdam, Sharjah, Melbourne...

The contents of their work go from historical to contemporary approaches, mixing all kind of media, from archive photos and illustrations to HD video, 3D animation and interactive programming.

In its work, Ocubo has as constant preoccupation in the communication with the audience turning the spectator into an active participant. Sharing Light with the people, empowering them to create with light, giving them the opportunity to appropriate themselves of their own urban space: those are the mottos in each of Ocubo’s creations.

8 - SOUFFLE D'HIVER / WINTER'S BREATH

Installation lumineuse de verre soufflé

The main area is comprised of mirrors at eye level that are angled in an octangular shape. The surface of the mirrors is populated with crystalline glass forms. These crystalline forms mimic frost and are illuminated when the space is activated by viewer entering the space. The mirrors will work to create a sense of multiple and infinite space. The light interacting with the glass and mirror will serve to create optical effects and inspire a sense of wonder and reflection that is evocative of the winter landscape. In the entranceway, a moment will occur that will reveal the viewer’s breath and in doing so, connect the viewer with their experience of wonder in the “frost-like” interior.
